Education is an important stat as the number of occupational skill points you get is EDU x 20 (again averaging about 270 points to be divided among the relevant skills). More than that an investigator with some years at college and 16+ some form of graduate-level or formal degree. An EDU score of 12 suggests a high school degree. Remember that STR+SIZ says something about how much damage you deal on physical attacks while CON+SIZ says something about how much hit points you have.įinally you roll for Education this is done by rolling 3d6+3 (with an average of 13.5). (there aren’t different sizes and different races to choose from as in D&D). It literally means how tall/big/bulky your investigator is Intelligence is easy to understand, Size maybe a bit more diffuse.

This means the average is about 13 (as opposed to an average of 10.5 for the five stats already mentioned). Two stats, Size and Intelligence are rolled using 2d6+6. Appearance is what is says, how you investigator looks. Power is a bit like Wisdom in D&D/Pathfinder, it gives you a base score concerning sanity but also your latent ability to use magic (an important feature later on in Call of Cthulhu when/if the players discovers spells). The three STR, CON and DEX are the standard physical stats. This is a fairly straight forward process and something that should be familiar to most players familiar with RPG in general You roll 3d6 for 5 different stats, Strength, Constitution, Dexterity, Power and Appearance. The rulebook has a very easy step by step guide on creating your investigator. As the Keeper I’m fine with both methods but if you want to fudge the dice roll or just complain on making too many bad rolls I’ll probably step in and we can figure something out. The other way is of course to focus on what type of investigator you want to play as, single out a few skills you think are essential and then work your way backwards and also rearranging the rolls you make to fit the character you want to create. If you haven’t a clear idea on what kind of investigator you like to make, just follow the ordinary steps laid out in the rulebook and let your imagination take over as the dice are rolled and you can begin picturing yourself as the new investigator. The first thing you need to decide when creating an investigator is which step in the process you should begin with. As mentioned in a previous post the player are tasked with making characters based in London in 1923, mainly investigators working as private detectives or private investigators in a small agency, with the likelihood of also being veterans of WWI. When writing this it came apparent I needed to split into 2 posts so not to just have a massive wall of text and information. Currently I only have 2 players confirmed to be permanent members of the campaign so I’ll also give a few advices concerning what bases need to be covered first and so on.

As mentioned some of the players aren’t familiar with the RPG-system so to give them a better idea on how to prioritize among the many skills I’ll give a few pointers along the road and at the same time lay down some rules on how I plan to handle the process of creating investigators.
